This Privacy Policy details the exact types of data we collect, why we collect it, how it is secured, and your rights as a student member.
1. Information We Collect
To provide an authentic, safe collegiate community experience, College Adda processes the following categories of information:
A. Account & Profile Credentials
- Student Identity: Full student name, institutional registration handle (e.g.
alex_2026), and email address.
- Campus Affiliation: College or University name, graduation year, and optional biography.
- Authentication Data: Cryptographically hashed passwords (via bcrypt) or OAuth tokens verified via Google Firebase Authentication.
B. Student Posts & Campus Feed
- Public or campus posts, text updates, campus stories, photos, and video media uploaded to the feed.
- Post interactions including likes, bookmarks, and threaded student comments.
C. Private Messaging & Direct Chats
- One-on-one direct messages, shared pictures, and audio messages exchanged with connected college peers.
D. Voice & Video Calling (WebRTC / CollegeCall)
🔒 Zero Call Interception or Recording: Peer-to-peer voice and video calls establish direct media connections between devices using WebRTC and Google/OpenRelay STUN/TURN relays. College Adda does NOT record, listen to, or store your live audio or video calls on any server.
E. Technical & Security Logs
- IP address, browser user-agent, device category (desktop, mobile, or CollegeAddaApp), session identifiers, and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) tokens utilized strictly for delivery of message alerts and active device management.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Campus Community Connection: To display student profiles, connect peers from the same university, and deliver campus feed updates.
- Real-time Communication: To route direct chat messages and coordinate WebRTC signaling for voice and video calls.
- Safety & Campus Moderation: To detect and enforce community guidelines against harassment, unauthorized commercial spam, or abusive behavior.
- Account Security: To alert you to new device logins and protect against unauthorized account takeovers.
3. Data Protection & Zero-Selling Guarantee
- Zero Selling of Student Data: College Adda never sells, rents, monetizes, or trades personal student data to advertisers, data brokers, or marketing firms.
- Cryptographic Safeguards: All network communication is enforced over TLS 1.3 with HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS 1-year preload), Content Security Policy (CSP), nosniff headers, and encrypted HTTP-only session cookies.
4. Acceptance & Account Choices
Accepting this Privacy Policy is mandatory to register and use College Adda. If you do not accept or subsequently choose to decline, your active session is terminated, and you are returned to the login page. You may also contact administrators to request complete deletion of your student account and associated data.
